Council convener George McIntyre takes the fight to London The news that RAF Lossiemouth had been spared the axe marked the end of a triumphant campaign which united film stars, political foes, business leaders and tens of thousands of men, women and children.
The nine-month battle to save the base was organised with military precision and marked by a dogged and dignified determination which attracted widespread support far beyond the boundaries of Moray.
Hollywood actors Ewan McGregor and Kevin McKidd, Scottish comedian Fred Macaulay and the leaders of all Scotland’s political parties threw their weight behind it.
