In an episode centered on examining Callie Torres' and Arizona Robbins' relationship, we saw little of many characters on the show, much like last week's episode which focused on Ellis Grey's history. Here again we had only brief Owen Hunt sightings and when we saw him it was in his role as fellow researcher with Callie and Jackson Avery and in his role as a trauma surgeon.
We had hints of what the near future may bring for Owen as we saw him working with Jackson to convince Callie to take on working with a veteran who needed a complicated surgery. These three capable surgeons will likely continue to problem solve on behalf of the injured veterans we met a couple of episodes ago while also enhancing their professional footings with each other via their continued collaboration. And for the Crowen and Cristina Yang fans among us, this week it was Meredith Grey who referenced Cristina via a conversation she had with Callie about her own marital difficulties. As the two female surgeons bonded over feeling unheard by their spouses, Meredith referred to Cristina as the person who got her when her husband Derek Shepherd did not. Elsewhere in the hospital: Meredith and Jo Wilson picked up on the tension between Callie and Arizona in the OR; Arizona continued to work on balancing working in pediatrics while stepping into her fellowship; Alex Karev stepped into his newly regained role as a pediatric surgeon; Derek worked with Callie to solve an intricate neurological disorder in one of her patients; and Callie and Arizona's therapy-induced break turned into more of a break up when Callie said she thought they should have more time apart.
