New Disney movie set in Highlands may boost Scots tourism by millions

Tourist bosses in Scotland believe a new Disney cartoon fairy tale set in the Highlands - of which Hollywood got its first glimpse last week - could bring a multi-million pound visitor boom to Scotland, comparable to Braveheart, which won the best film Oscar15 years ago.

The new movie is Brave , dreamed up by Walt Disney and Pixar, and filmed in in stunning 3D. The film has a great line-up of Scots stars doing the voices - including Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane,Craig Ferguson and Kevin McKidd - with Glasgow girl Kelly Macdonald playing the lead role of Princess Merida. That's her character in our picture.

Today I have been on the film set of Comes A Bright Day photographing Imogen Poots for Japanese magazine, Numero. It was good to be on the set because we have dressed the lead actors for the film including Imogen and also it was great to meet the other main actors. [including Kevin McKidd]

you might remember a while back we posted this image (concept art) of the main character Merida

Just release is a CGI-Rendered image of the same character

As we posted previously a trailer is intended to be released with the premiere of Cars 2 on June 24

The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the lands ancient lore, stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage. The film also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Brave, full of heart, memorable characters and Pixar's signature humor, takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select theaters.
