ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE
A Comic-Con related midnight screening was secret enough that they let in plenty of walk up attendees...including a pair of homeless guys who brought in their bags of recyclables. I believe the Weinsteins were once scheduled to put this movie out...then they didn't, and it's been in limbo for a while. It's not terrible, but is a bit tonally problematic, as the slow pace, grainy handheld cinematography, and soundtrack scream serious drama...but at heart, it still ultimately just becomes a movie about drunk horny teens dying. It's so dour about it, though, that it's not a lot of fun, but I will say that the ending was inspired, taking an “unpredictably predictable” twist and doing a lot more with it than I expected. Prior to the movie, they showed a trailer for something called BUNRAKU. Now, I'm fairly sure many of you don't know what that means, which might be a strike against the movie; it's a Japanese style of puppet show. The movie, however, is one of those all-greenscreen shot flicks like SIN CITY, set in a world full of primary colors and cartoony backgrounds, and a really low-rent version of the cuty-folding-up effect done better in INCEPTION. But look: Woody Harrelson, Demi Moore, Josh Hartnett, Ron Perlman in gray dreadlocks...oh, and the best acting credit ever: “and introducing Gackt.” Yes, there's a dude just named Gackt in this movie. And he looks like a real ass-kicker. Source KEVIN MCKIDD may have missed getting the role of Thor in Kenneth Branagh's new film but he ended up portraying another god instead.
The Scottish actor moved from Norse to Greek mythology to take on the role of sea deity Poseidon in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, released on DVD and Blu-Ray earlier this month. The 36-year-old is no stranger to characters of the historical and ancient world. Among his many other credits are Kingdom of Heaven, set in the 12th century; The Last Legion, set in the 5th century; and as Lucius Vorenus in the HBO/BBC series Rome, set in the 1st century BC. He told us he hoped he had brought some of his "Scottish, Celtic fieriness" to the role of the gigantic Poseidon, who we first meet startling a fisherman as he emerges from the sea. It was a scene that wasn't as simple as it looked. He explains: "The hardest thing for me, and it sounds like it should be a doddle, was the opening shot of me walking out of the water. "I thought it would be dead easy and I'd be done by lunchtime but it took two days to nail that shot because being 40ft tall, if it just looked like I was walking down to the corner shop to get the paper it wouldn't work. "When you're 40ft tall your bones are much bigger so there's much more dragging and momentum. I found that really tough, although I didn't think I would. I had to think about mime class at drama school and about how heavy my character was." twitter source

Season 6 of Grey’s Anatomy was one of both great loss and great change for everyone at Seattle Grace. Through that combination of loss and change came opportunities for growth, some more painful to experience than others. Responding to changes we wouldn’t have chosen but are faced with nonetheless tests our mettle and allows us to expand our perceptions of ourselves and the direction of our lives. And this was certainly the case for the staff of Seattle Grace, especially Owen Hunt, head of the trauma surgery department, and Cristina Yang, third year surgical resident.
The first great change involved saying goodbye to George O’Malley, a member of the Fab Five, who we learned had been the victim of a fatal traffic accident. Even as hospital staff members were experiencing grief, work continued as patients still required treatment. And yet, moments were found to savor connections. As people around them took in this loss we found the usually stoic Owen and Cristina tenderly reaching to hold the other's hand while waiting for a rig to arrive in the ambulance bay. Both were acutely aware of their loss – that of a friend and fellow surgeon – yet as the season began they also renewed their commitment to their relationship. Even as they moved into the future together Owen and Cristina remained clear they were facing challenges, chief among them Owen’s PTSD as a result of his army service in Iraq. As a show of good faith, Cristina even went so far as to attend therapy sessions with Owen. (Of course, this move on her part was also an attempt to prove to Owen’s psychiatrist that she and Owen knew each other well enough for her to relax her stance on asking them to wait to indulge in physical intimacy.) These sessions revealed the enormity of the path ahead of them. In addition to the weight of Owen’s wartime experience, the reality that they were in the beginning stages of a relationship and had a lot to learn about each other was also brought home to them.
