Trio Climbs "the Ben" To Raise Funds & Awareness For Scottish Cot Death Trust
Actors Kevin McKidd, Iain Robertson and film set chef Guy Cowan are all set to climb Ben Nevis Thursday, May 8, 2014 to fundraise for the Scottish Cot Death Trust (SCDT). Starting from the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre at 11am, the three old "Small Faces" chums will set out on the Mountain Track route expecting a four hour climb, one hour picnic and three hour descent.
Scottish Cot Death Trust is the charity close to Iain Robertson’s heart and funds raised will go towards publishing a book – Andrew’s Rainbow - for young siblings affected by the loss of their brother or sister through cot death. Iain’s family had their lives devastated when they lost his elder sister Nicola to cot death. As the SCDT newly appointed Ambassador for 2014, Iain has had a busy year raising funds with Guy’s Charity Burns Night, an April Firewalk and now climbing Ben Nevis.
Cot death, termed Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), accounts for more infant deaths between the ages of 1 month and 12 months than any other cause in Scotland. When a healthy baby dies suddenly and unexpectedly, the impact is both devastating and lifelong.
Staffed by just 5 people, Scottish Cot Death Trust (SCDT) is a great charity making a difference through research, education and support. Through home visits, counseling, and a next infant support program (including an apnea monitor service) SCDT ensures bereaved families receive support as long as they need it. It strives to find answers through funding research while continuing to educate everyone on how to reduce risks. With only 2% government funding, they are dependent on individual donations like yours.
IAIN ROBERTSON @Robbo_Iain "Since I became ambassador for Scottish Cot Death Trust this year the support has been overwhelming. I'm amazed at the reaction to the Burns Supper organised with Guy Cowan - and the amount of people that turned up to the Firewalk last month was brilliant! As well as continuing to raise funds for research and support for the charity, we're still keen to raise awareness of the issue. That's why I'm so chuffed that between his busy filming schedule Kevin is throwing his weight behind SCDT. It's all been pulled together kinna last minute, but with Kevin's support and Guy's sandwiches to fuel us - I'm sure we'll make it to the top and back without having to be airlifted by mountain rescue!"
KEVIN McKIDD @TheRealKMcKidd "I know that Iain has personal reasons for supporting such a worthy charity and I'm glad space in my schedule has allowed me to get involved. As a parent I can't even begin to imagine what the loss of a child would feel like. I hope people dig deep to help the Scottish Cot Death Trust continue to offer much needed support and assistance. It's great to be home and taking in the Scottish scenery again and helping out such a good cause in the process."
GUY COWAN @GuysRestaurant "It will be great to team up with Iain and Kevin again and raise funds for such a deserving charity. I have fed both these boys many times through their film careers from Small Faces, Trainspotting and The Debt Collector and as a result, I have prepared a delicious picnic filled with their favorite goodies to keep them going!”

About Ben Nevis
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles, standing 4,409 ft above sea level. It is located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands. The summit is the collapsed dome of an ancient volcano.
The weather is typically cool and cloudy and snow can be found on "the Ben" almost all year round. Known as the "Mountain of Heaven" the mean monthly temperature is only -0.5 °C (31.1 °F). The view from the top is extensive. Under ideal conditions, it can extend to over 120 miles.
