Arizona Robbins and Nicole showed us more of the friendship they've developed alongside their professional partnership. These two women have bonded through their shared determination to explore the work they do while also showing us the difficulty of facing the reality of Nicole's condition. At the same time, Amelia continued forging a surgical plan with and for Nicole while also prepping to explain her plan in a series of inservice-like talks for the hospital's surgical service.
We saw many characters only briefly this week and that included Owen Hunt who appeared as a supportive Chief of Surgery. He checked in with Amelia to let her know she had his support as she worked toward Nicole's surgery. What he proved to be, instead, was a distraction and Amelia asked for privacy to focus on the work in front of her. While giving her the space she requested, Owen also attended Amelia's lectures and caught up with former Chief Richard Webber who saw good lessons in the work being presented whether the surgery was ultimately successful or not. Additionally, we saw Amelia share her fears with Owen about being 'the other Dr. Shepherd,' in reference to her big brother Derek, as she struggled with the pressure of Nicole's approaching surgery.
Elsewhere in the hospital: Miranda Bailey eventually succeeded in getting one of her patients on Nicole and Arizona's surgical schedule; Callie Torres found herself confused and a little bit concerned about Arizona's friendship with Nicole; Jo and Stephanie, the only two remaining residents, were drawn into Nicole's surgery; and by episode's end Nicole was wheeled into the operating room.
