While the vendor's rep was intense and flirtatious during the meeting, Owen remained businesslike even as Callie later assured him he was being 'vibed' by the woman with whom they met. His disbelief in Callie's words didn't keep him from joining her for a drink at the end of the day to relax. While at the bar Callie noticed the rep with whom they'd met earlier in the day. When her coaxing couldn't induce Owen to go strike up a conversation with the woman, Callie took it upon herself to talk up Owen to the woman at the bar, only to learn that she herself was the one with whom the rep was flirting. Rather than step into the opportunity, Callie went into verbal overdrive and spilled out her feelings about her recent divorce from Arizona before abruptly exiting the bar.
The situation and Callie's embarrassment about it eventually brought out Owen's honesty about his own feelings in the absence of Cristina. When these two friends finally talked the next day they both agreed that neither felt ready to consider dating. Callie pondered if perhaps a person only got so much happiness in a lifetime while Owen reminisced about the intensity of his bond with Cristina, saying that he 'can't imagine belonging to anyone like that again.' And ultimately we were shown how Cristina was still in Owen's heart as at the end of the day he stood on the vent - their special place in the hospital - missing her while a scene of them there from a previous episode was superimposed on the screen, giving us a visual way into Owen's struggle with his memories and their love.
Elsewhere in the hospital: Meredith struggled with daily life in Derek's absence while also missing contact with her friends Cristina and Alex; Alex and Jo enjoyed some romantic time together; Mrs. Kepner arrived as April and Jackson awaited news of their unborn child's condition; Meredith, Jo, Bailey, and Maggie operated on a complex tumor; Dr. Herman stated her intent to provide Arizona a crash course in her surgical specialty; Amelia found the residents' lack of enthusiasm dispiriting as she enlisted them in her plan to remove Dr. Herman's tumor while Richard Webber gave her advice and support; Stephanie had a professional breakthrough via working with her attendings and began to see the bigger picture of surgery; and Meredith and Maggie began to bond over their combined loneliness.
