As promise, brief words about Dog Soldiers. and thank you for the recommendation!! Ilgora
*And that's how my mother saw a horror movie (on her own initiative!)*
It was a KMKCentral recommendation. - "A werewolf movie? No way! But it is a FAN FAVORITE ... And so, with a lot of prejudice and a bit of suspense, sponsored by Amazon.Com, a cold winter night in Buenos Aires, no full moon, in front of my notebook (the TV screen seemed too large, just in case!) I surrendered to Dog Soldiers.
Horror movies are not my thing. And while the boss in me, they do not enter our home, neither walking dead's, or vampires, or werewolves, or general truculence, to the dismay of my two daughters. This surrounded the "screening" of great expectation ... would mom last through the first howl?
It would be a lie to say Dog Soldiers does not have all the ingredients of the genre: the camera caressing the Highlands, romantic camp in the forest, silver knife, a zipper moving by itself ... Arghhhh!! Wiping the blood from my face and about to press the OFF ... appeared. (In a great scene with the excellent Liam Cunningham). It can be called Lucius Vorenus or Owen Hunt, this time Sgt. Cooper. It is the unmistakable character that we know so well: no matter how he is dressed, where he is, or what century he is in…
He is a fair man, a man of principles, "the only one who could save us," says the girl staring rapt. Bold, defiant, heroic, and also, the guy next door.
How does director Neil Marshall know he had found the actor noted for his character? Does the character makes the actor or the actor makes the character? Because we are in 2002. Not yet reached the epic roles that made Mr McKidd who he is today. And yet, Sgt Cooper is completely him ...
What makes an actor choose a script that page 4 is torn by claws and a jaw ripping people? How does he know it will become a "modern classic"? Of course, in the background, enraged wolf packs eat everything that moves, (surprisingly full body shown by the director and do not disappoint), flying guts, brains explode, red eyes see in the dark, corpses hanging from hooks ... and Kevin taking his first steps as army trauma surgeon also! While he is there, we're safe: he'll never let us down.
When I emerged from my room, my youngest asked me: -"And so, mommy?" Me: -“Awesome”. My youngest ran to her sister´s bedroom: -“Mom liked it, the horror movie! she said enthusiastically, dreaming of the new universe that from that moment his eyes would open to ...
My eldest, without looking up, smiled a half-smile and said: -“No kid, not your hopes, forget it; mom did not like a horror film: mom liked a Kevin McKidd film”.
Keen to see the movie Amazon
