From: Elgin, Scotland
Where You’ve Seen Him: Playing Dr. Owen Hunt on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, which returns this month for its eighth season. He can also be seen opposite Josh Hartnett and Demi Moore in Bunraku, which is available on demand now and hits theaters this month.
On my iPod: A Tabata timer for workouts, children’s apps and about 70 GB of eclectic music — from North African folk to Clutch, Corinne Bailey Rae, John McCallum and Metallica.
Favorite movie: Taxi Driver. That and E.T. made me want to become an actor. Strange mix, I know.
Favorite weekend plans: Family time. We make pancakes on Saturdays and try to keep up the British tradition of a Sunday roast dinner. We also play music together: My kids play the piano and drums, and my wife is turning into a great bass player.
Favorite activity: I love the discipline [of martial arts] and pushing your body to excel. It is the mastery of your own instrument.
Favorite roles: Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy, Lucius Vorenus on Rome and my role in a film I did years ago called 16 Years of Alcohol.
Heroes: My grandfather, Geordie Runcie. He was a legend in my hometown of Elgin. He worked as a farmer’s worker and had a hard life, but he kept his integrity and dignity through it all.
