Cristina and Owen are now in couples therapy and it's not going well. Cristina watches Owen interact with a nurse named Emily and it looks like she’s flirting with him. He’s been working late hours and Emily's schedule seems to coincide with Owen’s.
Advertisement Cristina voices her fear that Owen is cheating on her to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), who asks if she has proof, and Cristina tells her no, it’s just a feeling. When Owen refuses to be intimate with her in the on-call room, she gets really worried. She searches frantically through his things at home for some sort of evidence, but has to stop when he comes in. She jumps into bed and pretends to be asleep.
Meredith’s voiceover mentions listening to the voice inside, that almost always turns out to be right. Is Cristina right about Owen cheating?
Cristina Yang is known for her often brazen confidence and somewhat cold and self-absorbed demeanor. As this storyline progresses, Cristina’s fear and desperation is more and more visible. This vulnerable, human side of Cristina is perfectly drawn and rarely seen.
It is heartbreaking to watch this couple, who have such tremendous chemistry fall apart. Sandra Oh is delivering some of her strongest performances as Cristina fights to hold onto Owen and their marriage.
It appears as if Owen may be the one thing that means more to Cristina than medicine. Is she going to lose him in realizing this too late? And, if he is cheating on her, will that be the final straw that breaks them apart for good?
