The Great Ghost Rescue will begin eight weeks of principal photography in UK and Hungary next week. Jason Isaacs, Kevin McKidd and Emma Fielding head the cast in the screen adaptation of NY Times best selling author Eva Ibbotson’s book “The Great Ghost Rescue”, Directed by Yann Samuell. Jason Isaacs (Green Zone, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows ) stars alongside Kevin McKidd (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief , Grey’s Anatomy), Emma Fielding (The Other Man, BBCs Cranford Chronicles), Georgia Groome (London to Brighton, Angus,Thongs and Perfect Snogging), Steven Mackintosh (Mo, The Scouting Book for Boys), and newcomer Toby Hall. The screenplay is written by David Solomons (Five Children and It).
Humphrey (Hall) is a small ghost with a big problem. He and his family, the Craggyfords, have been ousted from their home and left without a place to haunt. As they search for new haunting grounds they soon discover that they are not alone. Marching on London to fight for the rights of their people… dead people, they soon find sanctuary and that they are the toast of the town. But this celebrity is short lived, and when the tide of opinion turns it’s not only their rights, but their very existence that is being threatened. With time running out, it’s up to Humphrey to save his family and the rest of the haunting community from total extinction.
Director Yann Samuell (L’Age De Raison, Love Me if You Dare) will give the story his unique and visually dynamic spin, creating a colorful, and rich live-action film. “When I first read an early draft of the Great Ghost Rescue I immediately fell in love with Humphrey and this dysfunctional family – they were instant classics to me. It’s the kind of film I have always wanted to make for my own five children. Characters make a movie, and although these characters are dead, in story terms they are so alive. I think Britain has the best actors in the world, and we are so happy to have Kevin, Jason, Emma and young, fantastic, Toby to breathe life into them.” said Director, Yann Samuell.
Affinity International will be handling international sales at the upcoming Cannes film market in May, overseen by Affinity’s President of Worldwide Distribution, Brian O’Shea and Jim Harvey, EVP, Worldwide Sales. Domestic sales will be handled jointly by Affinity and CAA. The film is produced by Miriam Segal for Good Films Ltd with partners Newbridge Film Capital, Silver Reel and Lip Sync Productions.
“Yann is the perfect director to handle making this classic live action narrative, he has the visual flair, and an incredible imagination. We want kids, from six to sixty, to find a kind of storytelling that’s not wholly dependent on special effects, where comedy and character (and ghosts) are the real heroes.” Miriam Segal.
