ABC Renews ‘TGIT’ Dramas ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Scandal’ & ‘How To Get Away With Murder’

ABC has renewed all of Shondaland’s current dramas, which occupy the network’s popular “TGIT” Thursday night programming block.
“Grey’s Anatomy,” which in its 12th season has been touted as one of the medical drama’s best seasons yet, will return for Season 13; “Scandal” has been renewed for Season 6; and “How To Get Away with Murder” will be back with Season 3.
Although “Scandal” and “Murder” have seen significant declines in their numbers this season, the dramas are still steady performers and have huge social media followings, trending on Twitter every Thursday night. The two Shonda Rhimes-produced shows have become magnets for the network. Plus, both boast big star-power in Kerry Washington and Viola Davis, who won the Emmy this past year for her work on the show, becoming the first black woman to walk away with the best drama actress statue.“Grey’s,” on the other hand, has sustained a huge audience with the largest viewership of all three “TGIT” shows — an impressive feat for a series in its 12th season. Following the shocking death of Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd in Season 11, the long-running medical drama has seemed to experience a creative surge, finding new life with compelling storylines that some critics say are better than ever.
Shondaland’s fourth drama on the schedule, “The Catch,” premieres March 24 on ABC, taking place of “HTGAWM” when it ends its sophomore run.
