James Pickens, Jr. says Season 12 of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ will be one of ‘transition’

After saying goodbye to his good friend Derek Shepherd and getting married to his on-again, off-again girlfriend Catherine Avery last season, James Pickens, Jr. says Season 12 of “Grey’s Anatomy” will be one of transition for Richard and all the other characters.
“It will be a season of transition for everyone. It will be a season of how people deal with grief as it relates to, obviously Meredith and Amelia’s characters, and how Derek’s influence kind of made its way through everybody, especially the core characters. I think the intent will be to see how that affected everybody and how they deal with it as the episodes go on,” says Pickens, Jr., who has played the venerable Dr. Richard Webber for the past 11 seasons.
