Though Stephanie and Kyle only just took a turn into hot and steamy territory, their relationship will be forced jump to the next level during Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
When Kyle (Wilmer Valderrama) lands back in the hospital with a new tumor, Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) is prevented from working on his case, sidelined because of their new romantic relationship. Naturally, this does not sit well with the young doc.
“She can’t separate them,” Hinton tells EW of Stephanie’s personal and professional lives. “She thinks she can separate them; she thinks that she can be the professional person that she has been in her mind. Quite selfishly, because I play her, I think she is being that person, but the powers that be see the situation completely differently, so she ends up trapped. She’s backed into a corner and forced to make a choice.”
Whatever that choice may be, it’s borne of her past experiences at the hospital. “My approach to this has been that is she learned a massively painful lesson with mixing personal and professional with Jackson [Jesse Williams],” Hinton says. “Perhaps that’s a huge part of the reason why we haven’t seen her dating anybody since then, because that can be a struggle when you spend 90 percent of your time in this one place. How do you meet anybody new? How do you keep those two worlds apart?”
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
