Now that Owen and Amelia have gotten married, will there be a baby in their future on Grey’s Anatomy?
During the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Thursday, actress Caterina Scorsone revealed that she’s pregnant, sparking speculation that her character Amelia could also be expecting with new husband Owen (Kevin McKidd).
The season 13 premiere picks up right where the drama left off on the couple’s wedding night, but Scorsone says not to expect Amelia to have a bun in the oven. “I don’t think so,” the actress tells EW. “I think they don’t want to burn through all that story, but I also think that last time they wrote my pregnancy in, and I think Shonda [Rhimes] is going to give me a break on this one.”
Scorsone is referring to her character being pregnant on the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice, where Amelia heartbreakingly gave birth to a son who had no brain.
“They’re definitely going to have to do some fun hiding,” Scorsone says of her baby bump. “Super camera work and super wardrobe time.”
In the meantime, the new couple will be dealing with life after their quickie marriage, especially after Amelia pulled a Runaway Bride in the finale. “The rapidity with which they got married is going to be a piece of their story,” Scorsone says. “It took that level of spontaneity to get them down the aisle. If they had waited any longer, the nerves would have won. But now they have to figure out how to be married. That’s a big question for anybody, let alone two people who are deeply wounded.”
“A lot of their story this year will be negotiating this whole different dynamic, sharing a life and being vulnerable when you’re terrified of all of that stuff,” she continues. “I think it’s going to be a lot of really pithy conversations about what this new way of being is. I hope we get to explore how complicated and messy and sexy marriage can be. A lot of the time the story ends at ‘I do.’ As a lot of people know, that’s the beginning of the story.”
Grey’s Anatomy returns Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
