Is Owen’s sister actually alive?
During Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, viewers finally discovered who Bridget Regan had been tapped to play: Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) late sister Megan. Via flashback to Megan and Owen working in the field together while in the Army, we saw their jovial, yet somewhat terse relationship before her death, as Megan wasn’t afraid to call Owen on his “load of crap.”
Now the question remains: What really happened to Owen’s sister? Though an episode last season revealed she had died in a helicopter crash, could she actually be alive?
“As for whether or not the sister is dead, I think that’s interesting that people think that’s a question, but that’s an interesting question,” executive producer Shonda Rhimes previously told EW, declining to further elaborate.
If Owen’s sister somehow survived the helicopter crash, Owen doesn’t suspect as much, truly believing she’s dead while imagining his sister in the O.R. during Thursday’s episode. While Grey’s tends to lean into the sibling twist (See: Maggie and Lexie), it seems somewhat unlikely Megan is still alive. For one, where has she been all these years? And why wouldn’t she tell Owen that she’s alive?! Do you think Megan is still alive?
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
