"I worked as the dogsbody, basically, when I was 17 years old," the Scotsman said. "I swept the floor and cleaned up all the rubbish. I had the worst job at the distillery, and I never thought I would be the guy who would be photographed by the fantastic, amazing Annie Leibovitz."
But now, more than 20 years later, Mr. McKidd is the face of a series of portraits, shot by Ms. Leibovitz, to appear on limited-edition bottles of the cask-strength liquor.
On Wednesday evening, approximately 300 whiskey aficionados and photography enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the launch of the collection.
Four photographs, entitled "The Library," "The Gallery," "The Bar" and "The Skyline" were at the center of the celebration, and the Bowery Hotel was decorated to mimic each of the scenes.
