'Grey's Anatomy': Amelia may be the MVP for the last half of the season

The Season 11 fall finale of "Grey's Anatomy" left off with a few cliffhangers -- Derek (Patrick Dempsey) has left for D.C., Avery (Jesse Williams) finding out about his unborn child's condition, and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) perhaps finding a way to cure Dr. Herman's (Geena Davis) brain tumor.
While those loose ends need to be tied up, there also have been rumors and storylines confirmed for the upcoming half of the season that "Grey's" fans should be prepared for.
TVLine reported in November that the second half of Season 11 will have a very important patient arc. The story has since been picked up by multiple outlets that say a patient named Travis will be coming to Grey Sloan to make his transition from man to woman. The journey will have a significant impact on one of the doctors in the hospital, but it has not been revealed who yet. If Avery weren't going to be preoccupied with the news about his baby he might be the most logical guess, but it could be anyone.
Speaking of the Avery and Kepner (Sarah Drew) baby, Scorsone confessed to E! News that it's the storyline she's most anticipating. Considering Amelia's backstory and the tragedy she experienced with her own child on "Private Practice," the Avery and Kepner situation will be a tough one for Amelia to be near. However, it could give Amelia a chance to get closer to the couple and make more allies in the hospital now that Derek has fled for the east coast.
One of those other allies is other Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). Now, a romance between the two is strictly in rumor stages at this point, but the sparks were already evident before the show went on hiatus. Both Amelia and Owen have wounds they need to heal -- Amelia having lost the love of her life and her child and Owen still mourning Cristina moving to Europe -- but his support in light of her addiction proved there's some serious chemistry there. Expect to see that grow some more in the second half of the season but neither of them will jump in too soon.
