DELRAY BEACH — A monsoon fell on the Delray Beach Tennis Center this afternoon, delaying the Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic by more than two hours!

But when the rain stopped, celebrities like rocker Gavin Rossdale (who left pregnant wife Gwen Stefani in L.A. to attend the yearly event), former American Idol winner David Cook, Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd and even organizer Chris Evert lent a hand in the drying of the courts and play resumed.

On November 16, 2013 I had the pleasure of going with my husband to the Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis game. In attendance were Jon Lovit, Alan Thick, Scott Foley and the one and only amazing Kevin McKidd, and other players as well. 

Kevin was so sweet to his fans. He stopped on his way into the court to take pictures and to sign autographs. Funny thing happened to me when he came by me I didn't have a pen or anything for him to sign. I saw this gentleman with a sharpie and asked if I could borrow it but I didn't wait for him to say yes, I pretty much snatched it from his hand. "Sorry". I then gave Kevin the sharpie and my phone case to sign and he said "oh boy, you want me to sign this"? I said "yes please" of course. He smiled, signed it and I was also able to take a picture with him. I never thought I would ever meet a celebrity before let alone one of my favorite, Kevin McKidd. I thought "this is going to be a great day". Lol. 

Let me say that not only is Kevin a great actor, singer and plays the guitar, he is a pretty good tennis player. The players wore mikes so while on court whatever they said we were able to here them. Kevin was so funny when he missed the ball he would apologize to Chris his partner or would say "aww come on" or "aww man" but overall he played a great game. I kept saying to my husband that he looked like he was dancing around the court. He would bounce around a lot. Lol. Kevin played great, he had a strong hard serve and volleyed very well. He showed good team work and great sportsmanship. I liked that he got so excited when he and his partner did good and he would high five her. 

But, before the games started it had rained, when it stopped the players went out to dry the court. It was awesome to see how Kevin not only got busy with a broom to brush away the water but get down on his hands and knees to dry it up with a towel. After the games were over as I was about to leave I happened to look over at a side court and saw Kevin with one of the other players getting a private lesson.  Well, I thought that would be my chance to chat with him after his lesson. I asked Kevin if I could take another picture with him he said "sure, I'm all sweaty though", but I didn't mine that at all. :) Well I had this big goofy smile on my face but as I was standing their posing with Kevin I wanted to ask him so many questions but nothing came out of my mouth. I think at that point I was really in shock. Someone came up to him to have Kevin sign a bunch of his pictures and one of the pictures was of Kevin dressed in his Rome costume as Lucius Vorenus. I said "oh man" I'm watching that show right now he said "oh yeah, thanks". At that point I really had to leave before I did something silly.

All and all it was an amazing and wonderful experience to watch Kevin play tennis and to meet him. Not only is he super handsome his Scottish accent is awesome and he is very kind to his fans. I want to thank Chris Evert for this event and a special thank you to Kevin McKidd for an unbelievably wonderful and memorable day. 

As Owen Hunt would say..."take care now". ;)

In an episode of Grey's Anatomy focused on a very tense series of events in the life of Callie Torres, we saw the confluence of history and our renewed perspective on it once a little time has passed and we have enough distance from the events of our past to see them differently. 

Owen Hunt took the first courtroom shift with Callie as she faced being sued for malpractice after a hip replacement on a snowboarder resulted in dire complications for her patient. The surgeons of Grey Sloan Memorial had agreed to take turns being in the courtroom with Callie to show her their support in this emotional situation. Upon his arrival at the courthouse Owen, in full chief of surgery mode, shepherded Callie through a phalanx of reporters, making it clear his friend's safety was his first priority.

In a dramatic parallel arc to Callie's own struggle to process how this patient's case went so horribly wrong, we learned Cristina Yang was the surgeon who recommended Callie to help this patient. He had turned to Cristina for advice after her successful replacement of one of his heart valves. The two friends and surgeons worked fractiously together to prioritize next steps as the young snowboarder's condition began to deteriorate post-hip replacement. Their disagreement over treatment options continued into the boardroom as Cristina recommended the hospital settle the case with this patient given the media frenzy surrounding it.

Both Owen and Cristina had only minimal background courtroom scenes throughout the rest of the episode. They shared only one scene, if it can be called that, which consisted of a couple of intense yet inscrutable looks shared between them as they awaited the jury's verdict.

Elsewhere in the hospital: this episode shifted between professional scenes, in present time and in flashback, regarding the snowboarder's case and the parallel struggles occurring in Callie's relationship with her wife, Arizona Robbins.

Three years ago my 15-year-old daughter, Jennifer (Jenny), was granted a wish by New Hope for Kids Wishes for Kids Program in Maitland. Jenny chose to visit a medical center in the Los Angeles area. Although she had grown hospital weary following a protracted illness, which included travel to Johns Hopkins, The Mayo Clinic and Northwestern University Hospital, there was one premier medical center that was still on Jenny's wish list. She wished to visit Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (formerly known as Seattle Grace Hospital, and Seattle Grace Mercy West) on the set of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy." Thanks to New Hope for Kids, Jenny went to Hollywood, and had her best hospital visit ever.....
