Rarely is an event a good enough reason to justify the closure of busy L.A. city streets. But the John Varvatos' 8th Annual Stuart House Benefit yesterday which took over a chunk of Melrose and Robertson around his store was an exception. Hosted by Jillian and Patrick Dempsey, yesterday's star-studded event raised over $500,000 for the Rape Treatment Center's Stuart House for children.
The event drew over 1,500 guests who enjoyed performances by Franky Perez, k.d. lang & the Siss Boom Bang, some shopping, an array of delicious bites, plus live and silent auctions with 100% of proceeds benefiting Stuart House to protect and treat child victims of sexual abuse. Among guests in attendance were John Varvatos, Alberta Cross, Brooke Burke, Damien Fahey, David Schwimmer, Donovan Leitch, Eva LaRue, Glenn Hughes, GW Bailey, James Pickens Jr., James Van Der Beek, Jayma Mays, Jesse Williams, JK Simmons, Julie Benz, Justin Chambers, KaDee Strickland, Kevin McKidd, Kropp Circle, LL COOL J, Melina Kanakaredes, Michael Moloney, Michael Paul Chan, Omar Epps, Omar Sharif Jr., Phillip Keene, Ryan Eggold, Sam Page, Taylor Armstrong, Trevor Donovan, Zoe Saldana, Billy Idol, Perry Farrell and Mick Rock. Unfortunately most other events that take over streets do not support such as wonderful effort as this. And considering that it raised over half a million dollars for Stuart House, there's probably no better or more noble reason to close down an intersection for the day. source "We had to show the heads of ABC Studios what the idea was all about," Kevin McKidd told me yesterday at John Varvatos' eighth annual Stuart House benefit in West Hollywood. "We set it up at the studio and made it like a mini-theater and presented a truncated version of the episode as a live performance." McKidd pulled double duty for the presentation. "I love playing guitar and I love singing," he said, "so I was given the job to round up a band because I know a lot of session musicians in Los Angeles. I ended up having to be the guitarist as well as having to sing." And as much as McKidd is modest about his musical prowess, it turns out he's got quite the background. Not only did he have a number in the Mike Leigh film Topsy-Turvy, but he was pretty darn close to belting it out on stage courtesy of the man who gave the world Phantom of the Opera. "I developed a musical with Andrew Lloyd Webber called The Woman in White," McKidd said. "But I got offered [HBO's] Rome so I did that instead. So I've been around the musical thing. I've dipped my toe in a bit but I haven't quite dived in the pool yet. "I sing a little in the episode but this is very much Sara Ramírez's moment to shine," he continued. "We're all kind of basking in her shadow." Read the full article here The Ides of March (Latin: Idus Martii) is the name of 15 March in the Roman calendar, probably referring to the day of the full moon. The term ides was used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October, and the 13th day of the other months. The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars and a military parade was usually held. In modern times, the term Ides of March is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was killed in 44 B.C. Julius Caesar was stabbed (23 times) to death in the Roman Senate led by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus and 60 other conspirators. On his way to the Theatre of Pompey (where he would be assassinated), Caesar saw a seer who had foretold that harm would come to him not later than the Ides of March. Caesar joked, "Well, the Ides of March have come", to which the seer replied "Ay, they have come, but they are not gone." Kevspa has made a You Tube Playlist of all and only Vorenus' scenes, its still a work in progress, but please pop on over and check it out HERE

We're just as excited as you are about the upcoming "Grey's Anatomy" musical event.
The episode will focus on some kind of crisis for Callie (Sara Ramirez) as she imagines the hospital and her friends in unexpected (and obviously musical) ways. It sounds outside the box for the show, but we know the cast has an amazing amount of talented singers on it and "Private Practice's" Kate Walsh (Addison) returns for the episode. Plus, creator Shonda Rhimes wrote the script herself! "This is not jumping the shark, it's not a trick, it's not a gimmick," Jesse Williams, who plays Jackson, tells Zap2it. "It's totally in line with this season and these characters. And it's just incredibly moving." Also, ABC just announced that iTunes will have a sneak peek at the musical event's soundtrack on Tuesday, March 29. The full "Grey's Anatomy: The Music Event" soundtrack featuring the cast, including songs by Ramirez, a Tony Award winner for Broadway's "Spamalot," Kevin McKidd (Owen), Chandra Wilson (Bailey), and Chyler Leigh (Lexie) will be available on Thursday, March 31 - the same day the episode airs on ABC. Don't forget to keep an eye on ABC's Music Lounge in the days approaching the episode as the network promises exclusive video from the music event. Source (view sneaks at the source link) |
