Some updates from Kevin on current and future projects he will be involved with.
questions are in bold, Kevin's answers are in italics
*****
1. Dylan
still on hold for now - but keen to do it
2. Faith
attached to this project - building the finance
3. Rome (last info received working Title Bon Dea possible filming 2010 summer)
bruno is on the second draft i believe - the producers are building the financing and attaching a director
4. Catwalk (was removed from IMDB) is this no longer going to happen then.
haven't heard ..
5. Telepathy (teaser Trailer released)
it was a trailer I helped Lesley with - years ago - it is a great script - low budget European film about two identical twins in Russia - one of whom is a cosmonaut the other a farmer - they can telepathically communicate - the astronaut brother is sent on a deep space mission - the Russian space program convince the brother to become a part of the program to see over what distances telepathic link can be held ..
6. Bunraku (post production, still no release date other than Turkey 18 June 2010)
about to ASR for this - so nearing completion
7. The Bear and the bow (Voice)
will do my recording sessions in march - so will know more then - i do know that Craig Ferguson , Billy Connolly, and myself are a band of Scottish clansmen
8. Percy Jackson (release 12 Feb 2010)
correct - next week I go to new york and ( hopefully depending on Greys) to London for junkets
9. Bank Robber Diaries which will be directed by Dexter Fletcher and star David Morrissey, Mark Strong, Tom Hardy, Kevin McKidd, Charlie Cox and Jason Flemying.
am attached - Dexter is a friend - known him for years - saw him at MW2 premier - he asked me to get involved - to help build a great ensemble - will be fun - not sure when it will happen though..
just in case, are there any other projects that I can let fans know about ...
am attached to a Scottish film script - called the cone gatherers - based on the famous Scottish novel - to play the game keeper
Kevin kindly offered to answer several questions posed by concerned fans pertaining to Grey's Anatomy and his character of Owen Hunt.
questions are in bold, Kevin's answer are in italics
*****
these are hard questions to answer because i can only go on what i feel - and sometimes i dont agree with the characters actions etc - you want , as an actor , for your character to always do the right thing and be content and happy and in love etc-y'know?-- that , sadly, is not good tv -- anyway here goes but remember all my answers are subjective and tainted with the day that i wrote this - i may give a different answer tomorrow as my view of owen and cris/owen is shifting daily with the scenes we play , discoveries we make and new scripts we get that shed more light ... any way here goes
1- I'm wondering for how long Owen is in this hospital now, does Kevin know?
GA has a strange scale time and I'm wondering if that explains the fact that Owen doesn't know Cristina so much or if the reason is only her "armour" who makes her difficult to know.
Its interesting to compare the two scenes when Owen begs Cristina to see him last season and then she makes a similar statement in the last episode with completely different responses. I was wondering your thoughts on Owen's response to Cristina? Why do you think he's having such a hard time 'seeing' her?
i had a very hard time getting to the place where i could say that line for similar concerns as this - but it was explained to me that the two scenes are not connected- it could be easy to infer there is a thematic connection but they are about two completely seperate issues--similar statements but not the same..this scene is about professional judgement and conduct in the face of your personal needs and wants . and that owen is not saying 'i dont see you' he is saying --' YES i saw what you did , but what I SAW was a patient being needlessly cut and put into peril. THAT is what I saw because THAT is who is important - not you or me but at all times the PATIENT - the patient is the mission not our own desires or needs' and that is what he cannot forget - it is not that owen does not see her - i think he does as much as she will let him right now. in that moment his response, however, came out of anger- connected to the fact that he felt their intimacy as a couple was taken advantage of and the patient was put into a huge amount of unnecessary risk. To cut a living being who did not need to be cut is a HUGE deal. First do no harm. He loves cristina - he felt in a way that he witnessed her doing harm not only to the patient but more significantly to herself, and he is deeply concerned that she does not seem to realise that yet. Self harm is a terrible thing for a partner to witness in the person they love more than anything.Who knows where that road leads. BUT owen did speak out of anger and hurt and frustration and then regrets what he has done -- he knows - anger never helps-he should have said something like - 'Ofcourse I see you cris- but that is not the point of discussion here...' but he didnt because simply - he was angry and hurt still...there is always a better approach and in that moment he failed to use the right approach-we see him learn from that as we move forward.
2 - I think one reason a lot of fans might be frustrated this season is we are equally rooting for Owen and Cristina to get it together for each other, but haven't really seen them on screen as a couple that much this season. Lately they seem forty years away from each other instead of being together in forty years. Does it surprise you how passionate people are about this couple?
It is great that people are passionate about these two - cris and owen are passionate people and sandra and I are passionate about these two being together. For my part,I feel it is an important and vital story that we began last season -a story we should follow through on. There has been a lot going on this season . a lot to establish etc - so yeah I get the frustration but people should try not to worry - there time will come i truly hope. he wants to be there in 40 years time still, and he hopes she does too..
3 - In the season premiere the theme that Cristina and Owen aren't talking about the real issues was set. They made a start but seem to have drifted into misunderstanding and are not communicating well at all right now. Do you think the time for a meaningful heart to heart is approaching?
Yes - I really think it is all coming to a head - the talk is coming. As you say - if you look back at the wyatt scene in first ep - it was played for comedy in that scene so the ball was nicely hidden BUT the seed was sewn in that moment . sometimes people in love are in denial about the things they need to fix in their relationship-to make it last- they think love is enough- they are blinded for a while until the reality of the situation crashes in.These two are not perfect people, by any means and they have drifted lately, the intervention that is needed is coming..
4 - With Cristina as a catalyst, we have seen Owen committed to healing himself in order to move forward; will he use that experience to help Cristina through what appears to be the beginnings of her own emotional breakdown?
I hope to see that more - we have seen moments of it with the baseball scene and the skills lab scene so yes i would hope we develop that side of their relationship more..
5 - I have to admit I don't have any problem with Owen's character. I think the problem in general is that there are too many characters in the show so it is not possible to go deep with any of them. I would like to ask if the arrival of another Iraq veteran (Teddy) will potentially impact Owen’s recovery (for better or worse). Also, if we will know more about Owen’s background this season (his history besides Iraq, his family, childhood, etc).
The arrival will impact on him and cris - ofcourse - we are not that far ahead the shows that are airing so i dont know yet what the outcome of it all is, is the truthful answer. owens background , i know , is being discussed by the writers- to potentially shed more light - am excited to see what comes.
6 - Will the PTSD and Owen's progressive healing continue to be part of Owen's and Cristina's story? It seems to have disappeared since the season premiere. (PS--the therapy scenes are fantastic--more therapy and Amy Madigan, I say)
- there has been talk about that - really interesting potential for new stories . This aspect of their relationship needs to be managed - too much sitting on a sofa can get old fast BUT i really think the story of a couple moving through dealing with a mental health issue and trying to find redemption and happiness at the end of the tunnel and for their passion to remain intact if not become stronger because of it--THAT is an important one to tell right now.. and yes, I miss amy madigan she is pretty much a powerhouse and a lovely person too
7 - Does Owen understand how depressed Cristina is right now with her career? Why is Cristina not opening up to Owen? She did not have a problem telling Owen anything in S5 (ie. her father's death, messed up a stitch, etc.), even when it was difficult times they always sought each other out and communicated. Why not in S6?
My hunch is that these people seem to believe that when dealing with WORK issues- we should be more self sufficent than dealing with personal stuff.. obviously , they are wrong about that and hopefully we will see them learn from that error this season and come to the realisation that it is ok to say 'i'm not ok' it doesnt make you less strong ..owen does know now how much it all means to her - her cutting for no reason in last ep was a big flag for him- hence the new cardio attending -
8 - Why have they portrayed Owen/Cristina since the SP so differently than the "soulmate" lovers that understood each other just by looking at each other in S5? Are they going to get back to that "magical" love connection they got us all to buy into in S5 and are we going to start seeing happier times for Cristina/Owen?
i think they are still soulmates in their personal time( which we havent seen much of so far this year ..) but they are realising they have different views professionally and at work - they are realising that they have different motivations in the work place- we will see them deal with that - again we are not that far ahead of you guys - but they still love each other- its just last year they were in a bubble of their own - now the world seems to be seeping in..
9 - We opened Season 6 with so much promise between Owen and Cristina. Owen said that he would bury himself in Cristina but since then the writers seemed to have kept them at a distance. How do you feel they are travelling as a couple ?
that promise is still there - it is less distance but more we have not SEEN them burying themselves onscreen- they still do a lot of burying offscreen, (if you know what i mean!)... but we just arent seeing it as there is a lot going in other areas of the story .
10 - Are there aspects of Owen that you are not comfortable with? What advice would you give him were you two sitting at a bar chatting over a shot of Scotch? Not just about Owen's relationship with Cristina but also about his relationships with fellow hospital personel and patients?
Personally i get frustrated sometimes that he doesnt just grab her and kiss the truth out of her. that is what i want him to do - get to the source of the problem - because he loves her and wants her to fully divulge to him - but cristina is complicated and he knows that... as far as other relations ,he is making progress - i like the fact that owen takes his time getting to know others - which is opposite to a lot tv characters - they make fast friends and have seamless banter right off the bat - ever noticed that? it feels more real to me that he organically bonds with people over a more natural time frame.
11 - According to popular belief, 'what doesnt kill us, makes us stronger'. With respect to Owen and Cristina, do you think that statement is going to hold true or could these latest hurdles (Teit ddy, Jackson, Cristina herself) do some permanent damage?
it will make them stronger - i think if there is not true love and respect and passion for each other then hurdles can be the catalyst for the falseness in relationships to come clear - i do not believe owen and cris are in that position - in the coming eps you are going to be reminded of how much these two feel for each other- but- people who love each other arent necessarily at all times on the same page - sadly because life would be so much simpler if they were..
apologies for my grammar , punctuation etc - was on set all day so was in a big rush!

Leanne was able to get a quick response back from Kevin on a few more updates...
Outlander any news on that project?
NO NEWS - AM LOOKING INTO WHO OWNS THE PROJECT AND IF THERE IS ANY ACTIVITY ON IT
Highlander: the rumour has resurfaced, via a BBC article, that you are attached. Last time you said you had no idea where the rumour came from I'm just checking if this has changed?
NO CHANGE - BUT WOULD CONSIDER IT ..
Rome 2011 movie IMDbpro has only 3 cast members (not you) listed so far. Do you have any update with regards this project and your attachment?
BEING WRITTEN BY BRUNO - LUCIUS V WILL BE PART OF IT - HOPE TO SHOOT NEXT SUMMER --

Kevin sent more responses to our fan forum questions via iPhone:
Do you feel that working on Grey's has had an impact on your life yet, in a professional sense - for example, are you finding that more scripts are landing in your lap?
things are changing but it is still a dog fight to get parts that are interesting as there are not many out there . I have been in the biz long enough to know that one minute u r up next down -- so feel thankful for the opportunities I am getting right now..
What have you learned the most as an actor from working with Sandra Oh?
She is very thorough in her prep -- to see that from an actor who has been in the same role for 5 seasons is impressive . But she is also willing and open to give in to the moment and the possibility of something new happening - just a great committed actor with a big talent
Are you reading anything at the moment or have you read anything good lately that you would recommend to others?
I was reading michael palins diaries from the python years-- it is a tome so I will pick it up again when I get back to la - was feeling homesick for the Uk so it hit the sweet spot!
Whats your favorite Episode from Greys Anatomy season 5 and which character from all your productions is your favorite?
The premier ep for me was great because it was all so new and fun and exciting - wearing army gear didn't hurt either! It was a great intro for a character I think and I knew it at that time so enjoyed it - sometimes it's only in hindsight you realise how Lucky u r---- favourite character -- maybe my character in Nicholas nickleby . He was fun happy and funny - uncomplicated -- made a change from the more complex dark stuff I usually take on..
What is your hair look/style in Bunraku? Are you blond?
blond - slicked back but wear a hat thru most if the movie ..
Congrats on the role in Lightning Thief. I heard filming will be taking place in Vancouver. My question is whether this will be his first time in Vancouver? Canada?
my first time yes - heard great things and am looking forward to my time there
What was it like for Kevin and for Sandra Oh to film that choking scene and do take after take? I know he started to answer this question on the View but then he was frustratingly cut off by questions about Izzie.
it was hard because u have to reach into that place to do violence-- he was dreaming but it was a tiring day because some of that stuff rubs off sometimes
I've heard/read reports that the Grey's Anatomy shower scene took hours and hours to do. I want to know more about this scene did it take that long was he only wearing one suit and wet all the time ect...
Did take a long time - they really covered it -- i was in the same suit and they had a warm tent with heaters for me to huddle in between set ups - it was a warm night so it was fine but I was a bit prune like by the end!
I'd be interested to know how easily Kevin can slip between American and Scottish accents. I mean, we've seen him do it on Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel etc but I'd like to know whether in between takes on set he ever sticks with the American accent because he's in character
No I don't stay in the accent - it would be too much for me and I don't feel I need that - filming days are long enough IMO without that added effort -I like turning it on and off
Since Rome is one of my favorite shows I'd like to ask him what his favorite memory or scene is from show. There must be so many, but I know I loved a lot of the Pullo/Lucius interaction
The horse riding stuff and out in the Italian country fighting etc was great fun-- also some of the big street sequences were pretty special - especially night scenes - u really got a sense of how it was back then
does he have any say in some of the references/lines he gets to make, like to whisky or scotch on the Grey's set--like referring to Christina as a fine malt scotch or whatnot
I have opinions which all the writers are interested in but I am an actor not a writer yet .. I leave it to them usually ..
Are you one of those actors who needs time to prepare before a crying scene, or are you one of those who can do it right on camera? Before the love scene of GA's , I spotted that not only that your eyes are watery, but they are also red and swollen. You also have tears during the vent scene and the scene after the choking. Seems like you have cried for a long time. Is it true that you have to stay in a crying mode through out the shoot
Yes you do or i do -- you have to stay in that space -- thankfully those scenes are handles really well and they let you focus for that moment of ' delivery' and try not to make you repeat it too many times -
Why the choice of Red hair and a beard for Dr Owen Hunt's character
i dont know - shonda saw that look i guess - she wanted me to be darker than my normal blonde - i dont mind - its nice to change things up a little every now and then !

We posted that Kevin would appear on the Craig Ferguson show Monday night. Kevin sent a brief note for the fans:
I had to cancel the late late show with Craig Ferguson - because I was shooting late and could not be released --
there has been speculation as to why and I thought it was best to clear it up..

To start off the New Year right, we let fans take 1 week to compile as many questions regarding "Grey's Anatomy" as they could think of for an exclusive Kevin McKidd Online interview; one of those perks to being a regular member on the boards. We took 10 of these questions and presented them to Kevin over the weekend. He quickly got to work for us--here's what he had to say (thanks again, Kevin, and thanks to our board members for their great questions!):
Kevin, you've done alot of research on PTSD to enhance your portrayal of Owen Hunt. My question is a two-parter. First, do you think Owen will have to 'hit bottom' emotionally, physically and psychologically before he can actively move forward with any sort of personal interactions? Second, if yes, then how do you feel about playing out such a cathartic moment onscreen? Should the viewer see this breakdown or would such a display sensationalize the issue too much? The alternative being references to Owen's breakdown via dialogue and character interactions.
Where do you go in your mind or how do you accomplish tough angst performances like this?
Kevin : I feel great about the role and the way he is being conceived - i think he will get to some pretty dark places -- it is hard to know if there really is a ' moving on' from PTS but he is definitely trying to piece a life back together - sometimes his logic is messed up over things as we will discover ... i don't know how I accomplish it .. I guess I just respond to the material laid in front of me and trust that the research I have done comes through in some way...
Are you signed on as a regular for multiple seasons or just until the end of season 5 at this stage?
Kevin : You never can tell in this business but at the moment I am signed for a few seasons - but they - as always - have the option to stop that at any time.
If you could write for the character what would you like to see happen to him?
Kevin : I dont know -I guess I want him to find some peace - some sense of order in his life again - that is what he wants deep down - I hope he and Cristina can get there in the end - they seem pretty right for each other
I love the poignant minimalism of the Cristina and Owen scenes and I consider Owen to be more of a modern version of Vorenus than Heathcliff. If Owen could go back in time like Dan Vasser to the Roman period, what advice do you think Lucius Vorenus would give him about life?
Kevin : Haha - Vorenus might tell him to get over himself - the interesting link between Owen and Vorenus is they show similar signs of estrangement on returning from combat - its just in ancient Rome - psychotherapy had not been invented yet ..
Do you have any idea why you end up in such serious, dour roles when in real life you seem to be a fairly light hearted person? Other than the fact that you're a great actor?
Kevin : Thanks for the compliment - at the moment I have been playing those kind of roles - the reason why? I don't know - it comes down to your ' look' in this business - maybe i look dour and serious in repose...?
How prescriptive is the direction for your character (ie, how much of what we see onscreen in terms of Owen's emotions and the way his story is portrayed comes from Kevin and how much comes from Shonda or directors? Are you left to your own devices at times or is it more relegated to "Okay, now you have to look at this person in this way...."?
Kevin : It depends-- some scenes are medical and technical and very focused on accuracy of procedure etc -- other scenes -- usually the more intimate scenes - are up to you-- the dialogue is there but there is a lot of trust given to the actors to feel out what is best in that moment - or certainly that has been my experience so far -- as far as creative dialogue about character arcs and emotional through lines - the whole writing staff are amazingly open to suggestions and gut feelings - which in my experience is rare -- so I feel very lucky to be playing this part and to be able to have some say in its conception ..
Can you tell us one funny story about life on the "Grey's" set?
Kevin : The crew are great. We laugh all the time - the crew are maybe the coolest bunch I have ever worked with and are very quick to laugh or play pranks -- last week we did a scene where Cristina and Owen are making eyes at each other as they walk slowly towards each other in a crowded corridor -- we do Sandra's coverage then we turn round on me -- as soon as they say action and i start to attempt my best sultry looks -- the sound guys crank out some Barry White full blast on the speakers -- the whole place cracked up ..
Since Grey's is about a hospital, there are tons of guest actors on the show. What are some of the challenges of working with so many guest actors, is it more difficult to portray connections, or is there less pressure, etc?
Kevin : I love working with guest actors -- they always bring something new and fresh to the show - I always have enjoyed that about TV - you get to spar with many able bodied actors over the season
Having just watched "Life during wartime". Do you agree with animal experimentation for research like we saw in the pig episode? And did you feel comfortable having to act out that scene?
Kevin : It felt weird doing that scene - those plastic pigs were very realistic ..In an ideal world I believe we should not experiment on animals .
Working as a regular in a television series, as opposed to starring in a movie, you don't have the benefit of knowing precisely what journey your character will take and ultimately how it will conclude. Grey's Anatomy, especially, is known for keeping its individual storyline under wraps from the cast for as long as possible. How do you deal with that as an actor and has that had any impact on your vision of the character of Owen Hunt or did you have a good enough sense of who he was from the outset that nothing has really taken you by surprise?
Kevin : This is always a challenge on TV but the more I do it the more I see it as a good thing -- in a movie you can get very hung up on the three act structure and arc for your character which is correct..
On TV however you get the chance - i think - to just be in a moment and respond in a quite raw way to material you are given to work with - because you and the character do not know what is going to happen next - which is the way life is and I feel sure depicting a character at its best should be surprising and revelatory - not pre determined and closed ended -

Kevin provided us an informal update regarding some of his future projects. He also provided the answer to our top 2 fan questions.
Dylan - While IMDB continues to change the status of this film, Kevin informed us that the project is primarily ON HOLD for the time being.
Parasomnia - The media announced Kevin's role in this film back in May; however, "Grey's Anatomy" filming has created a schedule clash.
Catwalk - Kevin says this project is still a possibility but may also clash with "Grey's Anatomy" shoots.
Dog Soldiers II: Fresh Meat - Kevin advised us that this is definitely not going to happen.
As for the two most popular fan questions, Kevin says:
(1) he does not have a family tartan and
(2) the scar on the bridge of his nose is the result of falling through a glass door when he was very young.
Thanks, Kevin, for the recent update and thanks to the fans for your interest and inquiries!

Hi how are you all?
Am in Bucharest prepping for a great movie called "Bunraku" with Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson and it looks like Demi Moore among others. It is very experimental and exciting..the entire movie is shot on green screen and is a spaghetti western martial arts film--if such a genre exists...
take care
