Get an education for this year's classical renaissance With Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief mere minutes away and Clash of the Titans squaring off behind it, it's a good time to be a Greek God. Zeus and the gang are back, baby, but just in case you've confused your Artemis and Apollo, your Hera and your Hermes, here is your guide to all the gods and demi-gods that matter...
Poseidon The Romans called him: Neptune
Not to be confused with: The upside-down cruise ship
Rank: God of the Sea
Played by: Kevin McKidd (Percy); Danny Huston (Clash)
Zeus, Hades and Poseidon divided the world between them. Zeus got the sky and the air, Hades the underworld and Poseidon the seas (Gaia kept the land). That's a win for Poseidon as far as we're concerned, but he still spent most of his time arguing with the other gods and jealously guarding his domain, putting aside old grudges (at the Trojans, say) when Hera tried to sink their ship without his say-so. He'll play a big role in both films however, particular in Percy Jackson where he is the hero's dad (that would be a spoiler for the book, but is pretty much given away in the film's trailer).
