How do you process finding yourself inches away from attaining the professional aspirations around which you've built much of your life only to find those goals by themselves are no longer enough? What happens when your long-held career drive and its related skill set is no help whatsoever as you start building relationships you never thought you'd have, when the man you dated moves in and becomes your husband and the colleagues you used to view as competition are now relied upon friends? And worst of all, what do you do when you've found yourself making hasty or ill-thought out decisions which puts both those relationships and those aspirations in jeopardy? As we head into Season 8 of Grey's Anatomy we find the fifth year surgical residents of Seattle Grace/Mercy West Hospital embarking upon their final year of training prior to taking their medical licensing boards in preparation for fellowships. The residents are in a state of both personal and professional flux. At the center of it all are the three remaining original residents we first met as interns seven seasons ago. Alex Karev finds himself the most hated man on staff after sharing with hospital administration his knowledge of Meredith Grey's actions in her husband Derek Shepherd's clinical trial. Meredith's switching of medications in Derek's trial shuts it down and puts her job, their marriage, and their preliminary custody of the baby they're adopting in jeopardy. At the same time Cristina Yang and her husband Owen Hunt find themselves facing a dilemma when they each have very strong opposing feelings upon finding out she's unexpectedly pregnant, which temporarily separates them and leaves them pondering the future of their marriage. Owen has, for the first time in their relationship, found Cristina unreachable when she schedules an abortion appointment without discussing it with him. And Cristina fears her marriage with Owen may be contingent upon going through with the pregnancy and worries that Owen considers her 'unforgivable' for not wanting to have a baby. Title: Joy To You and Me
Fandom: Grey's Anatomy Pairing: Owen/Cristina Rating: PG-13 Spoilers: Season 6 Summary: Cristina and Owen's first non-holiday together. AU take set during time period of season 6. Word Count: 2,877 "I don't do Christmas." She looked at him out of the corner of her eye as they walked past the gaudy display in the grocery store, complete with Christmas themed dishes and silverware, gift ideas, fake poinsettia centerpieces, cards, and all kinds of other holiday crap she tried to avoid at this time of year. She waited for his incredulousness, the idea that she didn't observe or celebrate what most people considered the biggest holiday of the year, or those blue eyes fixed on her and looking unbearably pleading as he explained how important Christmas was to him growing up, and how he had always had that huge Christmas tree in his house and fake reindeer on the lawn or something and how he had always put so much stock into celebrating the holiday... A special thanks to Kevin for being "Simple the Best " Team McKidd My adventure, part II – Edinburgh After an amazing trip around the Highlands, we finally made our way to Edinburgh. Have we saved the best for last? It remains to be seen What has surprised me about Scotland so far is that no matter where you are heading, you can be sure not only that there is a good train ride away (and by the way, ScotRail has a fantastic service, now back to regular programming) but that the scenery will blow your mind away. Besides the fun trying to even pronounce the names of the train stations in Gaelic and taking tons of pictures knowing for sure we will not be able to recognize in which town we took it, the most fascinating piece was the tons of Scottish people we briefly meet, all of them willing to answer our stupid questions (what is that? Are we there yet? LOL), giving us tips and welcoming us with open arms to their country. I want to take a minute here and thank them for that, when people say that the Scottish people is warm and welcoming… well, they have rightfully earned that fame. So, when one very funny lady pointed us to “after we go through this trees you will see the first glimpse of the Castle” we knew for sure we have arrived. Quick note to clarify what my state of mind (and body) was when arriving... I have to confess that I broke a toe on my right foot less than 3 weeks before traveling, so everything that implied walking with a slightly risk of a hill (where my foot was not completely flat) was really painful… so… when I realized the layout of the city in the area just surrounding the train station made my heart beat really fast… deep breath .. No small toe will stop me from enjoying Edinburgh (well… most of the time anyways LOL) !! We were staying at a hotel on the old part of the city, on Cowgate street. So just unpacking and studying the map (yeah, we don’t travel with too much stuff planned ahead… we review the maps, ask people left and right for recommendations once we arrive and off we go!), I noticed – quite loudly – that the Rutheford bar (all 16 years of alcohol fans will know what I am talking about) was only 3 blocks away!! When we arrived, I sadly found out that the bar has been transformed into a Spanish restaurant. There is nothing sacred in the world!! As much as I love spanish food, I refuse to eat there, especially after peaking through the windows and noticing that the beautiful wood work has been removed. Please, join me in a minute of silence for a beautiful masterpiece that was destroyed in the name of business. And let’s drink a whisky in Frankie Mac’s honor! Let’s move on to a completely different experience. Edinburgh Castle: what a place! Not only the placement in the city gives it the powerful presence but how they have taken care of it and how proud the people are of it is breathtaking. What I like the most was the St. Margaret Chapel. Small little gem worth the visit. We happen to be in Edinburgh during the EIFF (Edinburgh International Film Festival). And I was really intrigued by a movie starring Ewan McGregor. It is called “Perfect Sense”. So my next task was to try to get tickets for the screening and luckily we got them! Side note: the movie is interesting, the main concept is what happens when –for unknown reasons- human race starts losing one sense at the time. Both from a city (Glasgow) view, and a couple’s view (a cook –Ewan McGregor – and a scientist – Eva Green). I have to say that I liked it, my friend not so much. So you better watch it and let me know your opinion. We weren’t able to get to the Ghost Tours so, well, we will need to come back. You have to do what you have to do. Next August…sounds like a plan! Also - as part of the EIFF - there was a “Night at the park” at the St Andrews sq. We happen to be walking around on a very rainy day, not really feeling our best, and suddenly we turn a corner and… “Mamma Mia… here I go again, My , my, how can I resist you? ” ..yes! Mamma Mia at the park! Amazing that lot of people was sitting in the grass watching the movie, or dancing in the rain. What a view. It made us immediately change our mood! And yes, we were dancing by the end of the movie too! I think that the experience pretty much summarized what the energy of Edinburgh is about. An area of the city that I really liked was Grassmarket. The energy, the architecture, the music, the people, the arts. Amazing. We spend a fantastic night in a small jazz club with a great band, great whisky, and great people. What more can you ask for? And we spend hours (and I mean hours) checking every single shop (from natural medicines to artsy purses… something for everybody LOL) Certainly we need to come back soon. You need at least a week in Edinburgh to not leave feeling that there were tons of things we couldn’t see. We will solve that soon, I hope. Edinburgh, for sure it wasn’t the last time we saw each other! thank you Betina for sharing your travels and experiences of Scotland with us I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who saw this project to the end Ruralstar, COForever, PrincessLeah,FL, McHardcoreYang to McHardcoreYang for putting together such an awesome site and COForever for her art work in the form of banners, logos and video (also Ruralstar for video) some very talented people ~ thank you Growth rarely, if ever, happens in a straight line. And even when we have all the tools required for the job and a clearly laid out map or instruction sheet, we may still feel ill-prepared to take that next step. Because no matter how well we try to plan for every eventuality, or feel we know ourselves and our capabilities, we can still be brought up short by what life has in store for us. Through the process of juggling busy professional lives alongside meaningful personal relationships, we saw the doctors of Seattle Grace/Mercy West stepping into dreams they never thought they’d have or want, which created both unexpected stresses and rewards. As the impact of these different versions of their dreams began to be felt, these characters discovered life could rapidly become more than that for which they had bargained and yet that it also broadened their perspectives and allowed them to approach their lives and their relationships more deeply while also still sometimes finding themselves stymied by how to move forward. A late season voiceover from Meredith explained the dilemma: ‘We are responsible with our patients. The problem is... In our own lives, we can't think things through. We don't make the sound choice. We did that all day at the hospital. When it comes to ourselves, we've got nothing left.’ Some hid from change, as Chief Webber did initially in deciding Adele’s health concerns were simply an unfortunate confluence of forgetfulness and household accidents. Some bought processing time for themselves in explaining their reluctant reaction to the other people involved as Arizona did in telling Callie a life raising a child with her and Mark Sloan was ‘not my dream. My dream does not look like this.’ Some avoided the subject all together as Meredith did in not telling Derek her fertility treatments were impacting her eyesight. And some attempted to flex new emotional muscles and found themselves flummoxed by that process into retreating into old behavior as Owen and Cristina were as they stumbled into discussions of whether or not to have children.
