Rome

The grandness and epic scope of HBO's Rome ultimately became its undoing. It was a ratings hit for the premium cable channel but it was also a co-production with the BBC and when the two year production contract was up, so was the BBC's end of the money chain – leaving HBO with the lot of the notoriously expensive and expansive bill. Knowing that they were only get to tell their tale in two seasons, the writers and producers had the show jump ahead many years in Season 2, soaring over the rest of the story they wanted to initially tell and leaping ahead to the end of the saga. So what was really missing from this series might not have actually been an extra season, but all the potential seasons they skipped over.

Journeyman This cool time travel series followed Dan Vasser (Rome's Kevin McKidd – making his second appearance on this list), a reporter who mysteriously found himself jumping through time, encountering people whose lives he is meant to change. Dan's discovery that his presumed dead girlfriend, Livia (Moon Bloodgood), was also a time traveler added a very interesting element to the story.

Journeyman completed its initial thirteen-episode order but when the writers' strike hit, NBC declined to extend the show and that was that. Only a modicum of closure was given in that thirteenth episode, with plenty of unanswered questions about what was happening to Dan that unfortunately were never answered. But wouldn't it have been great if they had?

Kevin McKidd The accent: In Journeyman and Grey's Anatomy, McKidd respectively plays Americans Dan Vasser and Dr Owen Hunt.

But you'd never know he's actually... Scottish, born and brought up in Elgin, Moray. He has confessed to spending most of his energy hiding his real voice. Voicing Captain "Soap" MacTavish in the videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gave McKidd the rare opportunity to use his true accent.

Kevin McKidd: 'People just throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks'

Kevin McKidd, 36, got his acting break in the 1996 cult film Trainspotting. He went on to play Lucius Vorenus in Rome, had his own US sci-fi show Journeyman and now stars in Grey’s Anatomy. He can be seen as Poseidon in Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief.

Kevin McKidd has played a time-traveling journalist, a tortured Roman soldier, and a star athlete–turned–heroin addict. But nothing quite compares to his most recent role: In "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," McKidd moves earth and sea as the Greek god Poseidon. "You do some research into the traits of the gods, I guess," muses the actor, sounding remarkably laid-back as he reflects on how, exactly, one prepares to play a towering mythological figure. "You look at images. But in this movie, I had to take the lead from [director] Chris Columbus, pick his brains a little and see what realm he wanted us, the actors, to live in."

The Rocket Post 01/12/2008

Welcome to 2008, Kevin McKidd fans!

Good news for U.S. fans-- The Rocket Post is slated for official theatre release on March 28, 2008, thanks to Empire Film Group, which has acquired all U.S. distribution rights.  Thus far, reports suggest this is slated for full release as opposed to limited-theatre engagements.  We'll keep you "posted".

No news on Kevin's next project yet, but rumors are circulating that "Journeyman" sets have been tossed, although the cast are still held to their contracts for the time being.

We'll be adding some new photos to the gallery this week and don't forget to check this site's proboards forum link in the Fan section, as fans are great about sharing the latest and greatest Kevin McKidd-related torrents, news articles and links there as well.

It's 2am where I am right now so forgive any errors....

It was a privilege to get to speak to Brian Howe (who plays "Hugh Skillen" on NBC's "Journeyman") as part of Shaun O'Mac's radio program this evening.  He had some very insightful things to say about "Journeyman," the character arcs, and where interesting possibilities might lie for future storylines, if given a back nine.  Genuinely interested in fan responses, he implied that cast and crew are as disconcerted as fans are by a lack of promotion and he was encouraged (and highly entertained) by the fans' grassroots campaign to curtail any too-quick cancellation decision by the powers that be.

I think I speak for most by saying how nice it is that the cast, writers and crew have made themselves readily available to speak so openly with the fans about the show.  Thank you, Brian (and Kevin Falls earlier), for appearing on Shaun's show to interact and take questions and thanks to Shaun for letting fans have another outlet in which to voice objections over this fantastic voyage possibly ending all too soon.

And to Brian--you are every bit the friendly, straightforward, and humble "everyman," not to mention a good sport.   And I stand by my comment that your "weirdest family ever" is the best one-liner delivered by any actor on a show this year.

See you on the flipside!

Updates:

Just added 2 recent interviews to the Multimedia section: 1 audio of Kevin on Philadelphia radio and 1 video link to Kevin's television brother, Reed Diamond. Check it out and don't forget to watch the 3 remaining episodes! The finale airs in an irregular timeslot on Wednesday night, Dec. 19th, instead--you won't want to miss it! And if you also love Brian Howe ( Dan's boss, "Hugh") as much as we do, you can catch him on an upcoming radio broadcast with Shaun O'Mac, a Las Vegas broadcast journalist (issued guest for this Monday, 8pm PST).

In the meantime, we've added more to the News section and gathered more photos to be added to the Gallery sometime after Christmas.  We appreciate you checking in and submitting ideas for improving the site and boards; we do take everything into consideration.  We've also just integrated a fan voicemail option that allows anyone with a U.S. number (software restriction, not by choice) to leave a message for Kevin, the cast and crew of "Journeyman," or even other fans. No restrictions on what you say and no charge, other than the fee your cellphone provider charges for a received text message. This SayNow voicemail interface is new but a nice personal touch for those that prefer it. Talk about "Journeyman," Kevin or send greetings to other fans...the options are endless.

Until next time.
