When it comes to a seeming wave of Scottish actors who are invading America with their roguish charm and sword-swinging biceps, there’s no foot soldier whose landing might be more deserved, or long-in-the-coming than Kevin McKidd’s. Hailing from Elgin, Moray, McKidd got his start in youth theater before making a detour into studying engineering at Edinborough. But like all charismatic actors who seemed destined for a seemingly incongruous career path, it wasn’t long before acting pulled McKidd back in. His early theater work with Robert Carlyle’s Rain Dog Theater Company portended McKidd’s iconic film debut, standing alongside Carlyle as Tommy, one of the endearing drug-addled miscreants of that paean to Scottish bad behavior known as Trainspotting. McKidd’s imposing frame may have gotten him started out as a “gentle giant,” but he was capable enough of emotionally varying it through any number of accents and diverse characters for Hideous Kinky, Topsy-Turvy, Anna Karenina, De-Lovely and Kingdom of Heaven before his Anglo-phile appeal truly became internationally historic with HBO’s Rome. For a series that put believably immoral grit in the sword-and-sandal genre, McKidd’s Roman officer Lucius Vorenus stood for what might be called a voice of reason, honoring duty, country and unknowingly playing witness to history while also playing straight-man to Ray Stevenson’s berserker gladiator Titus Pullo. Rome’s critical success would quickly make McKidd a leading man in American television, first as a reporter unstuck in time for NBC’s one-season cult wonder Journeyman, and presently as the shell-shocked Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy. All the while, McKidd has continued to do his country proud amidst his new LA environs as the Scot to beat for a lady’s hand in Made of Honor, then as the bad-ass voice of the Scottish super-soldier “Soap” MacTavish in the gloriously violent video game “Modern Warfare 2.”
Now, after more than showing he knows how to handle a broadsword as god-worshiping characters in Rome and The Last Legion, McKidd finally ascends to the all-powerful heavens with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, essaying the role of Poseidon alongside an acting pantheon that includes Sean Benn’s Zeus, Rosario Dawson’s Chiron and Uma Thurman’s Medusa. It’s McKidd’s charisma that unleashes the thunder like never before (not to mention the ocean) in his relationship to a half-god son whom he seeks to protect from the various demons and deities that want his birthright. But perhaps even cooler for McKidd than going to Mount Olympus is being on the ground floor of what might be the next big Hollywood teen-fantasy franchise, one directed by no less than Harry Potter’s Chris Columbus. For fans of Kevin McKidd’s work, not to mention the acting aspirations of his countrymen, Percy Jackson is a literal godsend.

Hi everyone, Kat checking in again. Even though there seems to be a lull in Kevin news and viewing options this summer, we are still busy behind the scenes while Kevin stays busy in front of the cameras. Filming has completed in both Vancouver ("Percy Jackson" book-to-film) and in Glasgow ("One Night in Emergency" production for the BBC). While filming in the Western Infirmary in Glasgow, Kevin and the film crew took time out to visit with staff & visitors, making quite a few new fans with his hospitable and gracious manner.
Kevin soon returns to the L.A. set of "Grey's Anatomy" to begin filming Season 6 in July. The writers are already hard at work creating the story arcs for next year's shows; what would you like to see happen? Be sure to visit our message boards and let us know!
Kevin is also rumoured to be a hot contender for a potential Emmy for Best Supporting Actor, though he has tough competitors in his fellow castmates, including Patrick Dempsey who has added his name to the Supporting Actor category this year. July will bring more Emmy news!
On our end, we are busy testing and improving some pages of this site--we've added a video widget that links to the majority of videos viewable on Youtube & Hulu, which we will update often. This allows us to add more specific tags to all internet media so that you can view categories more easily--whether you want to find only Kevin's work within a certain year, his Grey's Anatomy interviews/promos, or just quickly search for fan-made music videos. We still have the old link available for our Zoopy account, which Leanne maintains & updates for us, as well as the old search option for all other online videos, too. We hope to keep customizing this page according to viewer feedback so be sure to let us know if this works or you like/dislike. If you have videos that you'd like to see linked here, let us know that as well. We do take everything we can into account!
We're also working to set up a separate Audio page soon--still working out a few kinks. If you'd like to submit mp3s, you can email those to mckiddonline@yahoo.com or send us a downloadable link; we will be sure to credit you on the page for all your help!
Leanne and I are also working on some potential future developments so stay tuned! If you haven't joined us on the message boards, facebook, or twitter, now's the time to do so! We're gearing up for an interesting fall & may have a few surprises in store for some lucky members as well.
Hello once again! Thank you for continuing to check out all the latest Kevin news! I cordially invite you (once again) to become a member of our Fan Forum message boards. You'll notice we had a slight interrum here and, although we sporadically updated the website and gallery, we did not provide a full announcement. The good news is that you will ALWAYS get the most up to date information at the Fan Forum, thanks to so many regular fans and Leanne, our administrator! As a registered member, you will get messages from Kevin prior to us making them available to the general public, as well as the chance to participate in contests and other upcoming exclusives we're presently working on.
We get many fan requests and wonderful emails, but the most recent request was made by Kevin himself, who asked to be sent those messages especially regarding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. We've collected those already posted to the boards as well as a few very nice emails and comments to Kevin and will send those to him shortly. Thank you to everyone who has been moved by his performances into sharing their personal stories; the response has been overwhelming and insightful, too. This is another way for us to say "thanks" once again for visiting the site and for you to have your voices heard as well!
There is, of course, much to update you on. We've been busy in the hiatus--we're still at work on the audio page, which will return shortly. We've joined the Twitter phenomenon, which will give you a quick glimpse of Kevin updates as well. We've been updating YouTube and Zoopy videos and have seen many fans adding rare footage from other Kevin films at these sites--thank you! One fan asked particularly about "North Square" and providing more of those videos to our YouTube account--while we provide clips of 1 episode, we do provide the links to the entire British series in our locked Fan Forum area for regular members only. So don't hesitate to become one!
Kevin started filming the book-to-film Percy Jackson series in Vancouver this week and we received some updates from him on his first day of shooting--thanks Kevin! He is playing the role of Greek God, Poseidon, estranged father to the lead character of Percy. For his latest update (and it was very early morning on set so incredibly nice of him to do), view "Kevin's Space" here!
He also has been seen out and about with the family more recently; however, we usually will attempt to keep paparazzi shots out of the main gallery out of respect. The family recently enjoyed the premiere of "Monsters vs. Aliens," took a quick Carnival Cruise, and, otherwise, Kevin has been taking more interviews to discuss further specifics about a potential Rome film, "Grey's" international publicity and he continues to finish filming the remaining episodes for Season 5 as well. Many of you continue to ask if he will return for Season 6-- the answer is a definite YES! Don't miss out as the rest of Season 5 returns from hiatus next week in the US, too. While they celebrated the 100th episode at the end of March, that episode will not air until May 7th.
For further news and details, check out the Fan Forum or the latest from Kevin himself! And a personal thank you from me for all the birthday wishes~ I'm so very grateful to all of you!
Sincerely, as always ~kat
Hello everyone! We first want to offer our congratulations to the cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire for receiving 8 Academy Awards! This is a film Kevin has supported since the Los Angeles premiere, and he was once again at the exclusive Oscars after-party for the winners this Sunday.
Kevin is still busy filming more "Grey's" episodes and we have the latest publicity photos of "Dr. Owen Hunt" up in the gallery. Kevin tends to duck under the radar when it comes to the papparazzi around Hollywood, which we consider a very classy thing to do. That is why we don't have much news to report of late.
However, we are tiding ourselves over during this (very) short hiatus of "Grey's" in America with some fun in the forums. We hope you'll join us! And if you're just now becoming acquainted with Kevin's work on "Grey's Anatomy" in your part of the world (or if you've just found yourself bound for "Rome"), we'd love to get your reactions.
**Remember, Bruno Heller just did another interview insisting that Kevin's character would definitely reappear in a theatrical release of "Rome"--his character's demise was only a "ploy" to keep certain enemies at bay. Vorenus may look like he's wasting away at the end, with Pullo at his side, but he's "far from burning on the funeral pyre."
Other than that, we have heard rumors that Kevin as Thor is not meant to be. Kenneth Brannagh has put out a casting notice for a younger 20-something Thor. While we think Kevin would have been excellent in the role, this will also allow Kevin other avenues for his summer plans and perhaps open new doors for him that a summer shooting schedule and contractual obligation to Thor would not.
Until we get more updates and finish a new streaming audio page (which is temporarily under construction), let us hear from you! Leanne and I are always amazed and impressed by all the fanfic, fanart and creative youtube music videos out there (there are so many!); thank you on Kevin's behalf for spreading the love.
Until next time, we'll see you on the flipside! ~Kat
Kevin will appear on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" on Monday, January 19th on CBS. Be sure to watch!
We received many interesting questions for our exclusive "Grey's Anatomy" Fan Questionairre, which Kevin now has in his possession. Thank you to all who took part on the boards--10 questions were selected so look for his answers to be posted in the coming weeks. Thank you, Kevin, as always for staying in touch with the fans!
Remember our special chat night right after "Grey's Anatomy" this Thursday, starting at 10:30pm CST. We'll celebrate the 13th episode (the halfway point for Season 5) in style with other Kevin fans. The infamous shower scene has caused quite a buzz--we'll find out if what happens after is just what you were waiting for.... Stay tuned!
We're officially 1 year old and what a year it's been! Kevin McKidd Online went from one mini-site featuring news and articles on Kevin to a full-blown fan site, thanks to our viewers and Kevin's interaction! When we started out, it was to offer others background information on Kevin—the sort of insightful biography and film articles that took us wading through hundreds of different sources to pull together. We tried to weed out all the critiques and get to the nitty-gritty, the real articles about Kevin, ones with substance and credibility. We did the dirty work so that others in future wouldn't have to. We went from 4 pages of information and a few photos to needing full section menus and a gallery hub to contain it all. We didn't start with a fan forum, but we received so many positive emails that we built it and you came; a chat room soon followed. We branched out from this site to three or four different mediums, taking on Myspace, Facebook, Youtube, and Zoopy videos as well. Thank you to the volunteers who participate or lend their expertise at all these sites; you're amazing. Without using ads and special gimmicks to increase traffic to the site, KMK Online quickly ranked third on Kevin-related Google searches and is linked on IMDB. Wow. We're proud of that since we aren't after making money or distracting you with a lot of flash—we're simply here to promote Kevin and give his fans another place to call home. Kevin's popularity keeps advancing and we're so excited to help spread the word about how cool he is. And he definitely is. But you already know that; it's what keeps you coming back to visit. He's the kind of guy that inspires you to try acting or to petition big networks to keep him on television or even to ask us for a Kevin-centric tour of Scotland in the future. If there's anything you, the fans, have taught me personally this year, it's that anything is possible…. Thank you for that and for sticking around. We're going to keep getting better, keep taking fan suggestions, keep growing…. If we can do so much in the 1st year, imagine the possibilities in our 2nd.
Sincerely, Kat, Admin of Kevin McKidd Online
